Welcoming staff, excellent home cooked food and pleasant atmosphere. Fried catfish with satisfying crunchy cornmeal coating moist plump fish. Big sides of greens & purple hull peas yummy and hot water cornbread sweet and dense. Oxtails and over rice was melt in your mouth tender. Huge slab of strawberry cheesecake was drop dead delish.Support this local treasure!!!

Being a cook I love trying new places . Sadly I don’t usually have anything good to say about the food in East Texas. It’s not great and this is me being honest . However when my plate arrived the food looked amazing ! The presentation and amount was very pleasing to the eye . I ordered the chicken fried steak with candied yams and greens . I loved the chicken fried steak , it was crispy thick and not tough . The gravy lacked flavor or but it was still good . Don’t get me wrong the gravy wasn’t bad just used to more flavorable gravy’s with soul food . The gravy isn’t the prize here anyways . The apple of my eye was the candied yams . If I could hear angels I’m sure they were singing as I took my first bite . The chicken fried steak was so delicious also . The greens had so much flavor , wasn’t my favorite but know Im not a lover of greens, though it’s the best greens I’ve ever tried . They are just not my thing really . Now the corn bread let’s talk about cornbread!!! The look of the corn bread is what amazed me the beautiful coloring and shiny butter top had me drooling and wondering how did they get it so pretty !! It belonged in a art museum some where . Its beauty had me at first site . When I took the first bite though the dryness had me grabbing my glass of water . It was very dense and very dry but the flavor still had me . I ate it all ! Though I couldn’t brag about the corn bread , I also considered the place was about to close when I came in , which could be the reason for a dry cornbread . It may have been better when it was fresher . Though it still was too dense for my taste some people prefer that . I would still order it and eat it , who can pass up corn bread ? If you have not tried this place , I would go now and go quickly .The staff was polite and very welcoming . I’m surprised this place is not bragged about . I mean never even heard of it . Well now its unforgettable . Hats to the cook and may you delight me with more of your creations very soon

It took a little while to get our drinks and take our meal order, but there was 1 waitress who was waiting tables, getting drinks, taking phone orders and taking the orders to the kitchen. The food was excellent, all homemade from scratch. Enjoyed the gospel music playing on the tv. Waitress was pleasant and efficient. My sister had the fried pork chop and when we left she's already planning how we can eat lunch there when we drive to Galveston in December. We were not fans of the hot water cornbread but I'll bet the rolls are tasty. Our bellies are full!

We were on the road and found this gem of a place. Baked ribs and collard greens were so delicious I got chills. Mac and cheese & chili pintos were comforting, clearly everything is cooked with a lotta love. Thank you so much for propelling our trip back home...

I travel to Marshall for work and at least once I month I have to stop by Elisha’s Food For The Soul. I always get the smothered pork chop meal which is to die for. The environment is always welcoming and the customer service is great as well. I would highly recommend if you’re looking for some soul food.

Crystal and all of the staff were very friendly and attentive. I had beef tips over rice, candy yams, and greens, hot water cornbread and a slice of sweet potato pie. Food was very good and they give you a lot of food.

Our second time eating their food. Once again it was tasty. Honey Punkin had fried Pork Chops, cabbage and mashed potatoes with gravy. Her plate came with 1 fried Chop. I had a 2nd Chop added because I knew I was going to eat some of hers. Chop was big and crunchy with a moist inside. Her sides was good as well. Potatoes seemed to be real mashed potatoes not boxed. I had smothered Pork Chops, yams and mac and cheese. My plate came with 2 Chops. Loved the chop. The gravy was good and seasoned well. Yams were the boom. Mac was delicious. I liked the hot water cornbread but my wife prefer the rolls. Prices are fair. The yams and mac and cheese portions could had been a little more. But like I said the prices were fair.
